How We Began

Trinity Baptist Church was first planted in the early 1970s by a group of Yale Divinity School grads as an outreach to New Haven and Yale. By October of 1999, it had dwindled to 20-30 in attendance on Sunday mornings. The church was intending to close, when the morning of the deciding meeting they received a phone call from concerned Baptists in the city regarding a possible candidate for the pastorate. They met that evening, discussed together during the week, and voted on Sunday to call Dr. Josh Moody as their Pastor. Josh and his wife Rochelle received the call on Sunday, prayed about it overnight, and discerning unusual providence at work accepted the call without having met any of the present members of the church in person!

Since then, God has been pleased to grant the church significant and healthy growth. It adopted a Constitution, Doctrinal Statement, and Core Commitments by 2003. As of Easter 2006, it had an attendance of 349, with a regular attendance in the region of 220-270.

Trinity is a member of the Western Connecticut Baptist Association, the Baptist Convention of New England, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
